Taxpayer Watchdog

Martha Yoder returned over two million dollars to taxpayers who were overcharged in the past:

  • Just a few days after taking office, the Trumbull County Farm Bureau brought to Auditor Yoder’s attention that the soil values on some of the properties on the Current Agricultural Use Value program were incorrect.

  • Auditor Yoder, with the Farm Bureau’s assistance, investigated the issue. It was discovered that during the update of these values in 2020, several values were never updated resulting in more than 2000 parcels being overcharged in tax years 2020, 2021, and 2023.

  • After the investigation, Auditor Yoder and her staff had to determine which parcels were impacted and then find the best path to remedy the situation.

  • As a result of this, more than $2 million was returned to farmers.

  • Auditor Yoder also instituted processes and procedures to prevent this from happening again.
