Martha Yoder has reorganized and improved the Weights & Measures department:

• Past practice in this area had been to inspect gas pumps and scales every two years.

• In 2025, for the first time in at least 25 years, every known gas pump and scale was inspected: 1495 Gas Pumps and 1037 Scales.

• The list of known gas pumps and scales was organized and updated, resulting in 68 businesses added to the list.

• This was done through both research and outreach. Some scales checked had never been checked, and some had not been in many years.

• Outreach was also important in educating Amish business owners in the County and successfully encouraging compliance with these business owners.

• In 2026, the Weights & Measures Department will continue to inspect gas pumps and scales annually as well as add the checking of UPC codes to be sure that consumers are paying the advertised prices.
